Privacy Policy for Anima
Effective date: November 8, 2026
1. Who we are
Anima is developed by Eren Şişman, an individual developer ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the processing described here. Contact: [email protected].
2. No accounts
You don't need to sign up to use the app. We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number. When you first buy, restore or analyse, the app creates a random anonymous ID. It is not linked to your name or Apple Account, and we use it only for your subscription and your usage limits.
3. What we process and why
| Data | Purpose | Where it goes | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photos, videos and sound recordings you capture or choose, with their sound | To read your pet's mood with AI | Sent encrypted to our server on Google Cloud (European Union), which sends it to Google's Gemini AI model | Not stored after the analysis; never written to a database, file storage or logs |
| The analysis result (mood and score) | To show it to you | Kept on our server for up to 24 hours to prevent duplicate requests, and on your device | Server: 24 hours. Device: until you delete it |
| Analysis records: date and time, result, pet species, type, size and length of the photo, video or recording, and technical details of the AI call | To run usage limits, fix errors and check the quality of the analysis | Our server on Google Cloud (European Union), under your anonymous ID | 365 days, or until you delete your data |
| Usage counters | To apply the daily and weekly analysis limits of your subscription | Our server on Google Cloud (European Union), under your anonymous ID | Until you delete your data |
| Pets, notes, results history and thumbnails | To show your history | Only on your device; not backed up by us | Until you delete them or the app |
| Purchase and subscription information, anonymous ID | To provide and restore your subscription | Apple and RevenueCat | As long as needed for the subscription and legal duties |
| App usage, crash and performance data, app instance and device identifiers | To fix bugs and improve the app | Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) | Per the providers' settings, at most 14 months |
| Notification token (only if you allow notifications) | To send occasional reminders and announcements | Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) | Until you turn off notifications or delete the app |
We ask for camera, microphone and photo library access only to capture or choose photos, videos and sound recordings of your pet. You can change these permissions in your device settings at any time.
When the app connects to the internet, our providers see your device's IP address as part of the connection. We don't store it with your data.
4. AI analysis by Google Gemini
Before your first analysis, the app asks for your explicit permission to send your photos, videos and sound recordings to Gemini, the AI service of Google. One permission covers all three. Nothing is sent before you agree. A recording may show or capture the voice of you, other people or your home; please consider this before analysing.
We use Gemini through Google Cloud (Vertex AI) in the European Union. Under Google Cloud's terms, Google processes this content only to provide the service to us and does not use it to train its AI models. Our server does not keep the photo, video or recording after the analysis.
You can withdraw your permission at any time with the AI analysis switch in Settings. Analysis is then unavailable, and the rest of the app keeps working.
5. Service providers
- Google LLC and Google Cloud: Gemini on Vertex AI, Cloud Functions and Firestore (our server), Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Cloud Messaging. policies.google.com/privacy · cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice
- RevenueCat, Inc.: subscription management. revenuecat.com/privacy
- Apple Inc.: App Store payments. apple.com/legal/privacy
These providers process data only on our instructions or under their own terms for the service they provide, and they protect it at least as well as this policy describes. We don't sell your personal data, don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, don't use advertising identifiers and don't show ads.
6. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Türkiye)
- AI analysis: your consent.
- Subscriptions and usage limits: performance of our contract with you.
- Analysis records, crash reports and analytics: our legitimate interest in a reliable app, or your consent where the law requires it.
- Notifications: your consent.
7. International transfers
The analysis runs in the European Union. Analytics, crash reports, notifications and subscription data may be processed in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
8. Deleting your data and your rights
Delete all data: Settings › Delete all data removes everything on your device and deletes the analysis records and usage counters on our server that belong to your anonymous ID. Deleting the app removes the data on your device only.
Depending on where you live (for example GDPR, UK GDPR, Türkiye's KVKK, California's CCPA/CPRA), you may also access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. For any request, write to [email protected]; we answer within 30 days. You may also complain to your data protection authority.
9. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA). We don't knowingly collect their data; if you think a child has shared data with us, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Our server accepts requests only from the genuine app, and nobody but us can read the data stored on it. No method is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We will publish the new version here with a new effective date and tell you in the app about significant changes.
